Wine and Olive Oil Tours from Chania

The olive oil and wine tasting tours from Chania compared: the ancient olive tree of Vouves, family wineries, what each tour includes, length and price in October 2026.

Updated October 2026

West of Chania the land rises into olive groves and small vineyards, and most tasting tours follow the same thread: an olive tree older than most cities, a mill or producer, a winery and lunch. They differ in how much wine, how much food and how many people share the van.

The olive tree of Vouves

Nearly every tour stops at the olive tree of Ano Vouves, a gnarled trunk that still bears fruit. The listings estimate its age at 3,000 to 5,000 years; nobody can date it exactly, and that is part of its charm. Tours usually spend about half an hour there.

Cretan wine in two minutes

Crete grows its own grape varieties, many found almost nowhere else: Vidiano for whites, Kotsifali and Liatiko among the reds, and the Muscat of Spina from the hills west of Chania. Family wineries on these tours are small, so tastings are usually poured by the people who made the wine.

Prices, ratings and review counts as listed on GetYourGuide in October 2026, not a quote: they change with the season and the date you pick.

The olive oil, wine, cheese and honey tour (4.6 from 1,212 reviews, from US$47 (GetYourGuide, checked October 2026)) gives the widest taste of the island for the price and has the largest review base. Book the wine and olive oil tasting tour (4.8 from 388 reviews, from US$135 (GetYourGuide, checked October 2026)) if wine is the point of the day. The Milia mountain tour (4.9 from 102 reviews, from US$169 (GetYourGuide, checked October 2026)) costs most and feels least like a coach trip. Wheelchair users should note that both the tasting day and the Milia tour list themselves as unsuitable.

Bringing olive oil home

Buy it from a producer you visited and ask for a tin rather than a bottle. Within the EU there is no problem; for flights elsewhere, pack it in checked luggage and check your destination’s import rules.

Rather cook with the oil than taste it? See Chania cooking class prices or food tour or cooking class.
